About yoga
Yoga is a form of physical activity that is practiced by many, but the benefits may be left with not much thought. Yoga has many life benefits mentally, physically, and spiritually. This post is to help inform others about just a handful of the many benefits that yoga has to offer and how it can lead to a positive impact in lifestyles.
Improves strength, balance, and flexibility
Practicing yoga regularly is known to have a positive effect on cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Based on multiple studies, increased strength in older individuals and balance, strength, and flexibility in children and young adults are a result from yoga practices. This form of physical activity uses slow movements and deep breathing, which increases the blood flow to warm up muscles and leads to increased range of motion.
Reduces stress
Yoga can help with stress reduction, leading to calmness and relaxation. A lot of yoga styles incorporate meditation practices that help to calm the mind and focus on breathing and body movements, such as breathing-based yoga and movement-based yoga.
May boost immunity
Chronic stress can play a large and negative role on the immune system. When your immune system is weakened by this chronic stress, illnesses are more likely to occur. Practices of yoga are connected to improved immune systems in part because it helps to decrease inflammation and the enhancement of cell-meditated immunity.
Increased body awareness and improved posture
Whether you are working in an office or looking at your phone, being hunched over is a part of everyday life in todays day and age. Yoga's focus on both mobility and flexibility can lead to better alignment within the body, allowing for tight muscles to release. Yoga can also be responsible for improving brain function for interception; recognizing sensations within the body.
Improved sleep
Insomnia is a sleep disorder that affects a larger percentage of people, resulting in fatigue and decreased energy levels throughout the day. Based on multiple studies, yoga has been shown to help people fall asleep faster and stay in a deeper sleep. This is because of the meditation aspect that allows a more calm mind and body, ultimately leading to increased energy levels during the day.
